CYANOTYPES

For this collection, I experimented with the cyanotype process. Rather than screen printing, I coated a variety of reclaimed fabrics of different textures with a chemical mixture, exposed them to light with a mix of sumi ink paintings, cut + torn paper, charcoal drawings, and found materials and then rinsed them with fixatives to create these prints. The result is a cross between photograms and blue prints, the earliest photo processes. The inspiration came from Bay Area natural artist Andy Goldsworthy and the Japanese techniques boro and sashiko.
